Newsmaker Palin Coming To Hamilton

Sarah Palin is coming to town, but for a different reason now. The former American vice-presidential candidate and Alaskan governor was hired as a keynote speaker for an April 15 visit to Carmen’s Banquet Centre in Hamilton to help raise funds for St. Peter’s Hospital and the Juravinski Cancer Centre. But backlash from supporters of the two health care institutions, who aren’t enamoured with Palin’s past criticism of universal health care, has led organizers to choose another beneficiary. The Charity of Hope, which raises funds for local children on behalf of school boards, YMCAs, the United Way, youth groups and other institutions, will now receive all profits from the event.

A hot ticket on the Washington Speakers Bureau (which also represents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush), the charismatic Palin’s rumoured appearance fee is in the $200,000 US ballpark.

The evening will include a gourmet four-course dinner, a live auction and a keynote address by Palin, followed by a Q&A session.

Tickets start at $200. Sponsorships, which include VIP passes and autographed copies of her book, Going Rogue: An American Life, range from $1,000 for a single ticket to $5,000 and $10,000 tables, with a $25,000 head table package.
