Able Labels

Personalized label company Mabel’s Labels was given the nod for the RBC Momentum Award at the 2009 RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Awards Gala in Toronto. The awards, which recognize the nation’s most outstanding women entrepreneurs, saw a record 1,500+ nominees last year.

In receiving their award, co-founders Julie Cole, Tricia Mumby, Julie Ellis and Cynthia Esp were noted for “successfully overcoming obstacles and capitalizing on opportunities to deliver 10 percent or more growth year over year for more than three years. Through expanded management, empowered employees and demonstrated excellence, they have created a flexible and responsive business that is able to adapt to changing market environments and exploit opportunities for continued growth.”

“In seven years of business, we grew from hand-addressing shipping envelopes to overseeing a vibrant company with a growing staff, and multi-million dollar annual sales,” says Cole, who, along with each of the four co-founders, entered into the business with a $2,375 contribution. “Remarkably, (our) sales continue to increase 85 percent annually. While our growth and vision is worldwide, our business supports the local economy through job creation, supplies acquisition and community involvement. Proud carriers of the ‘mompreneur’ banner, we have nurtured both a successful company and 12 children between us.”
